Strategic Use of Decoy Types
Not all pigeon or crow decoys are created equal. There are different types of decoys designed for different purposes. By using a mix of decoy types, you can create a more convincing spread.
a. Feeding Decoys
These decoys should be the core of your spread. Feeding crows and pigeons help create the impression of a safe and friendly feeding ground, attracting other crows and pigeons to join the group. Place feeding decoys in the center or edges of your spread, slightly angled to give the illusion of movement as if they are pecking the ground.
b. Resting Decoys
Resting decoys give your spread a sense of stability, making it look like the area is a comfortable place for crows and pigeons to relax. Place these decoys near the periphery of your setup, often away from the main feeding group but within sight.
c. Lookers and Flyers
Use a few looker decoys, positioned at higher angles, to represent crows or pigeons scanning for danger or circling the area. These should be placed in areas where the birds might naturally hover. Flyers or hanging decoys add further motion and mimic the behavior of pigeons that are just about to land or take off.
d. Decoys at Varying Heights
Different heights mimic real-life bird activity. Place some decoys on the ground, others perched on short posts, and some suspended by a thin line to simulate pigeons in flight. This layered approach enhances the illusion of natural activity and makes the spread look more dynamic.
